I did a lot of research before buying this drive and could not be happier with it. Easy to set up for my Mac. Works flawlessly with Time Machine. Energy efficient, good looking. And inexpensive. What more could you want?

Fantom 1TB External $40 rebate transaction
The Fantom 1TB External eSATA/USB 2.0 Hard Drive is fine and is working well. My complaint is about the so called rebate. I received the $20 rebate from MacMall in a timely manner. I jumped through all the hoops set up by Promo Process to verify my purchase and submitted the info. My $20 rebate was denied stating I did not provide the correct barcode even though I did provide extensive proof of purchase, receipt, shipping label etc. There really was not a $40 rebate on the item I purchased. I wonder how often this happens?

Drive’s Fine, Rebate Program a Mess, 2009-11-13 09:55:34.08
By jrepp ()
If I were reviewing the product alone, it would have received five stars (though I’ve only run four or five back-ups to date): My MacBook prompted me to reformat, which got accomplished without a hitch, and from then on, it’s been a matter of hook it up, fire up Time Machine, and back up.
I bought a 1 TB drive, list price $119 and change, sale price (har har) $79. I applied (or tried to) for both $20 rebates. The first one went OK, and I received the money after a four-week wait. The second one involved a third-party site that seemed designed to discourage navigation. I sent an inquiry to the "contact us" address and never received any reply. In short, a drive advertised for $79 cost me $99 and headaches.
Why the two-tiered rebate? This has made me leery of ever ordering again--the almost daily emails have just about sealed the (negative) deal.

Jump through hoops, get a deal, 2009-11-13 13:02:39.71
By Greg Scheer ()
I’m entirely pleased with my new Fantom Drive. However, there’s got to be a way to streamline the rebate system. Having to keep track of two separate $20 rebates is a pain in the neck, and it only gets worse when you need to document costs for your work. I guess in the end I’m willing to jump through the hoops to get $40 dollars back, but I wish the store and its suppliers would have a little mercy on us poor deal chasers!

complete waste, 2009-10-19 12:05:31.427

I bought this drive about 6 months ago or so, I wrote a bad review then, and it never got posted.
Beware when buying this Fantom Green Drive! I got the 1TB, the cable connections are so bad I can barely use the thing. Every time I touch, nudge, or even think about touching one of the cable connections, my computer says I disconnected the drive without ejecting it first (even though I did not,) and it creates a new volume. Files disappear onto old volumes, it is a complete nuisance! Either I have a lemon, or this could possibly be one of the worst drives I've ever owned. You get what you pay for!

Fantom GreenDrive 1TB External eSATA/USB 2.0 Hard Drive, 2009-05-27 15:49:53.77

I hardly notice this product and that's what you'd want from a backup drive. It's quiet and it just sits in the shadows and does it's job the way TimeMachine tells it to.

Fantom 1TB drive, 2009-11-13 16:04:01.86

Wonderful product. Partitioned the drive to work as a time machine drive for 3 separate computers on my network. It was easy to set up and have not had a problem since I bought it 3 months ago. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

no problems, 2009-08-20 12:24:09.94

I've had this drive for about a year now. Still works perfectly. I've been using it heavily with time machine on my unibody macbook pro. I've been going to Sae Institute for audio engineering. It's very convenient to back up on a mac with time machine. I have it set so that when you plug the drive in it automatically starts backing up. And you can see the arrow wheel thing in the menu bar spinning telling you it's backing up. As much audio/video work as I do, I usually back up at least 3 times a week, and each backup can be anywhere from 500 mb to 10 gb. I have backups all the way back to sept. last year that I can recall. That's probably why I have 243 gb. free on a 1 tb drive. Every kb of data that has been on my computer for the last year can be recalled with ease. Just so you can judge how fast it transfers on mac, it copies 1 gb. of pics. in 40 sec. and 1 gb. of videos in 35 sec. When I get home I bring my mac out of sleep, and plug in my greendrive and turn it on, and go eat sup...

Fantom GD1000EU 1TB Hard Drive, 2009-05-30 17:25:45.93
By not saying ()
The drive installed easily. The included instructions for formatting for Mac OS were more detailed than for most other external drives I've bought. No problems at all so far, and I appreciate the power switch, which is lacking in many drives anymore. (With about a dozen external drives for video storage, the always-on drives really slowed down my system start-up as the awaken until i pulled the power supply plugs.)
