I purchased this to put new life in an old hp dv6 laptop. I was very impressed with its production. I would also suggest buying true image 2013 cloning software it is a breeze to clone your disc automatically

Great upgrade for my mid-2009 13" Macbook Pro, 2013-03-12

Great value. Fairly simple install. Very fast. Just cloned my 160gb internal hard drive to the Samsung 840 500gb SSD using carbon copy cloner (free version). For the cloning process, the SSD was attached to the Macbook Pro using a sata-to-usb adapter previously purchased for other purposes. The cloning process took about 4-5 hours and went very well. Afterwards, the cloned SSD was tested by booting it via usb. When that proved successful, the internal hard drive was replaced by the SSD, It took about 15 mins and a couple of small screwdrivers to swap drives. One of the screwdrivers required is a Torx T6 which I did not have on hand and had to run out and purchase at Sears for less than $5. After the install, I discovered that a recommended firmware update was available. Initial queries led me to believe that the firmware could only be updated with a Windows utility. This was problematic since I already had the drive loaded with OS X, installed in my Macbook Pro and had no windows syst...

SSD Migration, 2013-03-12

I have been planning to change from a conventional hard drive to an SSD in my aging Dell laptop for quite a while. The price on the Samsung 840 was very reasonable. The unit arrived very quickly with the free shipping. My only oversight, and one that is not clearly mentioned in the literature is that you will need some sort of connection between your computer and the SSD if you intend to used the supplied software to clone your disk. You will need a cable that allows you to go from the SATA connections on the SSD to a USB port on your computer. I ended up buying a Vantec CB-SATAU3 NexStar SuperSpeed Hard Drive Adapter - 2.5"/3.5" SATA to USB 3.0 cable, even though I only have USB 2.0 on the computer. It worked flawlessly. In about 2 hours, my 500 GB SSD had a clone copy of the 500 GB conventional hard drive. I plugged it into the computer and it worked. I am very pleased with the unit and the service from MacMall.

I had purchased this for my 13inch MBP 2011. It was very easy to switch out. I did not clone my drive since I wanted a clean fresh install so I can't give you a review on that, but the difference between the standard drive and this one is night and day. Definitely worth the purchase. I think it is faster than it was when it was new.

WOW STUPID FAST!, 2013-03-21

I kept hearing all this hype about how much faster the SDD technology is but couldn't justify the huge price differences between spinning drives and SDD. The prices have come down a lot lately. I have a MAC PRO computer that already has 1 (2) TB 7200 RPM drive and 2 (1) TB 7200 RPM drives. They typically boot from the time I press the button until the desktop is ready to use in about 3-4 minutes, which up to now seemed quite normal. I mostly bought this Samsung 840 because I run LogicPro which is a big processor and hard drive taxing program, I wanted to see the difference and WOW it is extreme!
My computer boots in 30 seconds to the desktop, LogicPro loads in about 10 seconds, it is STUPID FAST, all the plugins just quickly load so fast I can't even read whats loading now. AMAZING. I am rarely impressed by a product but am SO impressed with this SDD drive I just had to leave this review. Yes they are still a bit pricey but remember that just a couple of years ago a 500GB Hard ...
