Questions and Answers

"List price" is the suggested retail price provided to us by our vendors. We make no representation that a substantial number of these products have been sold or offered for sale at the list price. Actual retail prices in your area may be substantially different. Since we sell products on a national basis, it is not possible to know if our merchandise is sold at list price in any particular location or at any particular time. "You Save" reflects the difference between our price and the vendor provided list price shown on our sites. Since the list price may be different than the actual retail prices in your area, you may not actually realize a savings of this amount.

Manufacturers sometimes ask that retailers not display a price if it drops below a certain amount. The "click here to see Lowest Price" message indicates that the price of the item is so low that the manufacturer requested that it not be advertised (that is, displayed). In a brick-and-mortar store, you would probably have to ask a salesperson what the price of the product is. At MacMall, by clicking on "click here to see Lowest Price" you are essentially asking to see the price, at which point we show it to you.

The new MacBook Pro
State-of-the-art processors. All-new graphics. Breakthrough high-speed I/O.
Three very big leaps forward.

Strength. Lightness.
Beauty. Seamlessly integrated.

MacBook Pro is machined from a single piece of aluminum, an engineering breakthrough that replaced many parts with just one. It's called the unibody. And the first time you pick up a MacBook Pro you'll notice the difference it makes. The entire enclosure is thinner and lighter than other notebooks. It looks polished and refined. And it feels strong and durable - perfect for life inside (and outside) your briefcase or backpack.

A display full of bright ideas.

Everything Apple designers and engineers do, they do for a reason. They chose LED backlight technology for the MacBook Pro because it makes the display instantly bright and allows it to be incredibly thin. They used edge-to-edge glass not just because it looks beautiful, but because it lends structure to the display. And at the top of the screen they hid the new built-in FaceTime HD camera. So you see your friends and family in big, beautiful widescreen - and as little of the camera as possible.

Multi-Touch trackpad. It just feels right.

The Multi-Touch trackpad has no button because it is the button. That means there's more room to track and more room to click - left, right, center, and everywhere in between. Apple designers and engineers spent countless hours considering things like sensitivity (how much pressure triggers a click?), audio feedback (what does the click sound like?), and friction over the smooth glass surface (what does it feel like?). The result is a trackpad that just makes sense to you - and your fingers.

Easy access to connections and ports.

The connections and ports on MacBook Pro - MagSafe power, Gigabit Ethernet, Thunderbolt, USB, SDXC, and audio in/out - are all smartly integrated on the same side of the notebook. So your cables stay neatly organized, and connecting and disconnecting your devices is easy and convenient.

Designed to make an impact. Just not on the environment.

Complete control over how the MacBook Pro is designed, how it's manufactured, and how it's packaged gives Apple an environmental edge. LED backlight technology preserves energy. Glass and aluminum are highly recyclable. MacBook Pro is free of most harmful toxins. And the 17-inch model ships in packaging that's 34 percent smaller than the original, while the packaging for the 13-inch model is 41 percent smaller. That means fewer trees used for boxes and fewer planes, trains, and trucks used for transport.

Up to 2x faster processors and 3x faster graphics.
Next-generation quad-core and dual-core Intel processors.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro now features a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5 processor or the fastest dual-core processor available - the 2.7GHz Intel Core i7. With Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.4GHz, these processors allow the 13-inch MacBook Pro to perform up to twice as fast as the previous generation.

But we couldn't leave fast enough alone. The new 15- and 17-inch models bring quad-core power to almost everything you do. The available 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor - with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.4GHz and up to 8MB of shared L3 cache - enables these MacBook Pro models to run applications up to twice as fast as their top-of-the-line predecessors.

The graphics performance you need, when you need it.

The integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor - now included across the MacBook Pro lineup - handles the things you do every day. It encodes video quickly, making HD video calls with FaceTime possible. And it decodes efficiently, so you get long playback time for DVDs and iTunes movies.

For graphics-intensive applications, the 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models automatically switch to new high-performance AMD Radeon graphics processors. With up to 3x the performance of the previous models, they let you see more frames per second in 3D games, or work on HD video projects with more speed and responsiveness than before.

Introducing Thunderbolt.
The fastest, most versatile I/O ever in a notebook.

Imagine accessing multiple streams of uncompressed HD video - from your notebook - at speeds that let you edit an HD feature film in real time. Thats how Thunderbolt technology will connect the next generation of high-performance peripherals to the next generation of computers - starting with MacBook Pro. Ultrafast and ultraflexible, the Thunderbolt pipeline is more than 12 times faster than FireWire 800 and up to 20 times faster than USB 2.0, and it offers unprecedented expansion capabilities. It changes what you can do on a notebook.

The Thunderbolt port will give you plug-and-play performance with a whole new world of Thunderbolt peripherals, as well as with the Apple LED Cinema Display and other Mini DisplayPort peripherals. You can daisy-chain as many as six devices, including your display. And with support for video and eight-channel audio, its easy to connect HDMI-compatible devices - like your TV and home stereo - using the HDMI adapter you already have. Current VGA, DVI, and DisplayPort adapters are also supported.

The new FaceTime HD camera. The difference is clear.

Get more of your friends in the picture with crisp, widescreen HD video. The new FaceTime HD camera gives you three times the resolution of the previous camera - perfect for the brilliant LED-backlit display - along with improved low-light performance. You and your friends can make 720p HD calls from one new MacBook Pro to another. You can also make video calls to other Intel-based Mac computers, iPhone 4, or the new iPod touch.

Multi-Touch trackpad.
Be more hands-on.

The Multi-Touch trackpad is the most natural way to interact with what's on your screen, and the smooth glass surface gives you plenty of room for gestures. Pinch to zoom in and out, swipe to flip through photos, rotate to adjust an image, and much more. The buttonless design lets you click anywhere. And if you're coming from a right-click world, you can right-click with two fingers or configure a right-click area on the trackpad. The more you use the Multi-Touch trackpad, the more you'll wonder how you ever did without it.

A long-lasting battery. Charge less. Do more.

The new MacBook Pro delivers amazing battery life. And that's with more powerful processors and faster graphics. An energy-efficient processor architecture with an integrated video encoder, along with automatic graphics switching in the 15- and 17-inch models, all help improve battery life. So you can expect to surf the web wirelessly for up to 7 hours on a single charge. Or take your entire creative studio on the road for live performances or a location shoot. Advanced chemistry and Adaptive Charging give you up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles - nearly three times the lifespan of typical notebook batteries. And because the MacBook Pro battery lasts up to five years, MacBook Pro uses just one battery in the same time a typical notebook uses three. That's better for you and for the environment.

Apple is using a new, more rigorous battery test that measures the results you can expect in the real world - like surfing your favorite sites in a coffee shop or catching up on the latest web videos. Even using this new test, MacBook Pro delivers amazing battery life. For your real life.

It's very well connected.

When you're out and about, the latest 802.11n wireless technology in MacBook Pro makes it easy to get connected just about anywhere. MacBook Pro automatically finds available networks and allows you to join them with a click. Bluetooth wireless technology is also built in, so you can use your favorite wireless accessories right out of the box.

Ports with possibility.

With the new Thunderbolt port, you can daisy-chain as many as six devices, including your display, to create a full-fledged workstation. Two USB 2.0 ports (three on the 17-inch MacBook Pro) and a FireWire 800 port let you connect your iPad, iPod, iPhone, digital cameras, and external hard drives.

The new SDXC card slot on the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pro models supports up to 64GB cards and makes it a snap to transfer all those photos to and from your MacBook Pro, so you can edit and share them on the spot. And the ExpressCard/34 slot on the 17-inch MacBook Pro is perfect for an eSATA adapter - or even a 3G wireless card for times when no Wi-Fi network is available.

Burn DVDs superfast.

After using iMovie and iDVD to edit and apply the finishing touches to your home movie, use the 8x SuperDrive on MacBook Pro to burn it to DVD in no time. Since the SuperDrive writes to double-layer discs (DVDs with nearly 9GB of space), it's great for backing up data, too.

New Intel Core i5 and i7 processors.

Up to 2x faster at the core. New quad-core Intel Core i7 processors are standard on the 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro. And the 13-inch models feature the new dual-core Intel Core i5 processor or the fastest dual-core processor available - the Intel Core i7. All the models use Intel's recently refined chipsets. So what does all that mean for the new MacBook Pro models? Bottom line: They perform up to twice as fast as the previous generation, breezing through demanding tasks like editing HD video, compiling audio, or rendering a multilayered image file.

Faster single-chip microarchitecture. Whether you're watching a movie, updating your blog, or editing photos, data has to travel from place to place to be processed. The latest Intel Core architecture puts the processor, cache, memory controller, and graphics engine on a single chip. Since data doesn't have as far to travel, you get faster performance and greater efficiency.

Turbo Boost 2.0. Say you're using a processor-intensive application like Aperture 3 or Final Cut Pro that benefits from extra power. Turbo Boost is a dynamic performance technology that automatically increases the speed of the active cores - up to 3.4GHz. Turbo Boost 2.0 is even more dynamic and efficient. By shifting core frequency in smaller increments than before, it allows the processor to manage performance without sacrificing efficiency. All this takes place behind the scenes, so your work just goes smoother and faster.

Hyper-Threading. Hyper-Threading is now standard on every MacBook Pro. This technology allows two threads to run simultaneously on each core, so Mac OS X recognizes eight virtual cores on a quad-core processor and four on a dual-core processor. When you're running multiple applications at once, the processor spreads tasks more evenly across a greater number of cores.

Integrated memory controller. With faster access to memory, each core can get right to work on your data, rather than waiting for it to arrive. Thats why the new Intel Core architecture uses an integrated memory controller to connect fast 1333MHz memory directly to the processor. Together with up to 8MB of shared L3 cache, the integrated memory controller helps your applications run at peak performance.

Energy-efficient graphics. Thanks to the new microarchitecture, the graphics processor is on the same chip as the central processor and has direct access to L3 cache. That proximity translates into performance. The graphics processor also automatically increases clock speeds for higher workloads. An integrated video encoder enables HD video calls with FaceTime, while an efficient decoder gives you long battery life when youre watching DVDs or iTunes movies.

Up to 3x quicker on the draw. And the render.

When you need more performance for things like playing 3D games, editing HD video, or even running CAD software, the 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pro models automatically switch to discrete AMD Radeon graphics that let you see more frames per second and experience better responsiveness. With up to 1GB of dedicated GDDR5 video memory, these processors provide up to 3x faster performance than the previous generation.

MAC BOOK PRO 17" and Apple care, 2012-01-17
By PATRICIA GOFF
OVER ALL,

I am very pleased with the product, however, I suspect I may have a faulty memory chip, because the other day, I was working along and all of a sudden the finder went berserk.

All of my folders were suddenly empty, but when I looked under All my files, there they were

I force quit finder and rebooted, and things went back to normal. Hopefully it was just a one time glitch,
but I thought I should mention it.

Oh and about apple care, I have always gotten it, but now I have it on my iPhone iPad, and the laptop.
I was really shock to see that it was 379 on the laptop, and in the future I will have to evaluate whether it would be more cost effective to not get it, and simply pay on a case by say basis.

Thanks for reading,
Patricia Goff

Best Value Ever!, 2012-04-17
By Rich
We all know you pay a premium for MacBook Pro and they never go on sale. Wrong. The blowout deal let me get a great, super-engineered MBP for about 25% off. Yes, there are faster processors out there, but a 17" 2.3 GHz i7 with all the Pro features I need for under $2k was unthinkable until I saw MacMall. Awesome deal. And in case you don't know, MacBook Pro has features you just don't get on any other laptops, they are mini-workstations. The best built in the business, seriously engineered for serious users.

MacBook Pro 17", 2012-04-24
By Mark
This is my first Mac and intro to the Mac World. The transfer assistance software that comes with the Mac did not work, but after some trials I was able to transfer the data from my external hard drive (after I did my first Sap the Prim) process. There was some pain and effort to get the AirPort Express to work with m Fios network, but I finally got that to work. The next hurdle will be hooking up the Time Machine for backups. All in all I had not more IT issues than expect. Despite the claims that Mac's "just work" have proven false, but it does work better than Windows that's for sure. So far very happy.

Amazing, 2012-02-29
By Stacy
I never owned a Mac before. And this came at the best deal ever. I highly recommend this notebook. So easy to use just like the iPhone was second nature. I have officially become a Mac addict. MacMall was a perfect place to get it during their Mac Blowouts. I was able to get it for such a great price. And Upgrade it to 8 GB of Ram...I might know very little but this was my first and best Mac to own. At least for me it was. If your looking to not break the bank. And Know that a new Mac might be coming. Get this first learn on it before you go out and start spending all your paychecks. Get the knowledge then break the bank! :)

Incredible machine at a great price, 2012-03-07
By Jay
I bought this early 2011 MBP when the store slashed prices (again). I was in the market for a new MBP and was going to wait until the 2012 models were released. But the price was too good to pass up. A great machine, and I’ve never been anything but 100% satisfied with their prices, service and shipping.

Using Macs since 1984, yet this is my first laptop. Very nice, fast computer. It would have been much better with Snow Leopard instead of Lion (which sucks on many levels).

Workstation in a 17" Notebook, 2012-04-10
By Mac Household
This is a workstation class notebook with a quad-core Intel Core i7 processor. Order 16 GByte DDR-3 memory upgrade and one can run multiple VM's at the same time. It is quite the machine and still comes in at under 7 pounds.

MacMall shipped the notebook promptly and it arrived the next day. The only item missing was an included installation of OS X Lion. Fortunately other Macs in the household had already been upgraded. So, a free download of Lion over a 3 hour span plus an hour installation time had the machine running on the latest OS. Not a major issue, but it would have been nice if Lion were pre-installed.

Great machine!, 2012-02-01
By Ken
I bought the 17" quad core i7 2.3 GHz Mac Book Pro to be my primary development machine. I have a need to run both Windows and Mac OS X for development. This machine has been GREAT! I did upgrade to 16 GB of RAM so I can do simultaneous development on Windows running in Parallels and OS X. I also have the machine hooked up to a 22" monitor so I have more screen real estate to work with. This machine is easily the fastest, most competent machine I've ever had the pleasure to do my development work on. I keep the process monitor running all the time, and I don't think I've ever seen it go to more than 50% CPU utilization. Finally I have a machine that doesn't make me wait around while it just spins to finish a task. Best computer purchase I've ever made. This is my 3rd Apple notebook over the years and I've owned two iMacs as well. Those were all very good machines for their time, but this one is the best.

Perfect Machine & Service, 2012-02-21
By IE
My First Apple. And By Far Im impressed. I read many reviews and wanted to get something decent in price but not pay over the price tag for a brand new one. This system was right up my Alley. Perfect Machine for the perfect Tech. I have learned so much in about a Mac in a week. And realize why everyone says switch to a Mac. They are right! MacMall Service was quick easy and fast. I got an upgrade for cheaper then what other places offer. I am truly a lover of Mac and Apple. If they keep going strong they will never loose me as a customer ever. Perfect Machine!!

MAC BOOK PRO 17" and Apple care

Best Value Ever!
Read more
