Overall the new Apple TV is improved and it is easy to set up and use. It accomplishes what the previous version did but it is missing the optical cable connection. For me that was important. That allowed connection of Apple music and personal music to main receiver and then to the house speakers. If you want to use this product for your media room, it works fine. No breakthrough however. If you want it to connect to your house speakers, doesn't do that.
This is definitely all the things the reviews say -- much much more fun and useful than the prior generations. And the potential is gonna get realized pretty quickly, I think, with the new App approach. <br><br>BUT it will be a lot better if and when Apple adds a few simple things. First, it doesn't work with the existing Remote app on the iPhone -- and even tho the new remote itself makes using the phone mostly redundant, the presence of a real keyboard on the phone app would make setup, search, and especially password fields 1000 times better. The new swipe on-screen keyboard is better than the old click-click one, but not anything like a real keyboard. AND on the topic of keyboards, it would be obvious that this suffers from lack of any bluetooth keyboard options -- even Apple's own. Finally, I can't see why Apple couldn't build an app for iPad and for Macs themselves that let you use your existing keyboards (built into those devices) with the TV. But really, just the Remote app would be a good start.
The old Apple TV remotes work with it. Bluetooth only connects with one remote or keyboard at a time. If you have a bluetooth keyboard and want it to work, you won't be able to use the fancy Siri remote at the same time. It's not that big a deal with the new remote pad. Just don't expect to be using the bluetooth keyboard for searches anymore. The bluetooth remote will take just a sec on so to connect each time you turn it on.<br><br>The new Apple TV is much faster. I can scroll though programs to the more interesting scenes with out the continuous spinning. As new Apps become available, it's going to be awesome. Netflix works great. 4K really is not an issue at this time. I'm impressed the quality of YouTube and AirPlay from my iPhone or Mac. I can't imagine anything being more simple. The quality of video and audio on Apple TV is better than we get from the built in apps on Tivo Suddenlink, our Vizio TV, or our Sony bluray player.<br><br>If you have an iPhone or a Mac computer, this is your best option to date. Really there is no need for a bluetooth audio connection to my TV sound system anymore. Apple TV does it all.
