The improved design of the Quantum SDLT 220 and 320 Drives has virtually eliminated the need for head cleaning. Extensive testing has validated solid performance over thousands of operating hours, with no cleaning required. In fact, under normal office or laboratory use, no cleaning need has been demonstrated.
Nonetheless, further testing reveals that in certain stressed environments, cleaning does yield a focused benefit. With elevated temperature and humidity, we do note evidence of some contamination buildup on the head.
This contamination is removed using Quantum's new SDLT CleaningTape, now available.
While any Super DLTtape™ Drive will execute a cleaning cycle when the cartridge is inserted, we don't recommend a specific cleaning schedule, due to the unlikelihood of a drive actually being subjected to the high stresses imposed during testing.
