Overwhelmed by Office for Mac 2011

I'm just beginning to use Word for Mac 2011. I updated from the 2004 version and I think I waited too long to update. I'm overwhelmed. Word used to be for writing and editing. The latest version of Word for Mac seems amazingly robust with many more design tools. Could this new version replace InDesign? Not sure yet. I haven't even looked at the updated versions of Excel or PowerPoint. I think I'm going to have to take an online class to get caught up on all the changes I've missed in previous updates. Compared to my older versions these are new applications.

Making My Life Easier With the PC World

I bought the Microsoft for MAC office suite to enable me to quickly send files back and forth with my PC friends. It works exactly as described and I don't have to take special steps to save in a format that PC users can use.

I like the fact that what I see is exactly what the person I am communicating with will see. I have had issues with Pages saving as a Word document and there being formatting issues.
The product arrived promptly in about 3 business days and is working perfectly. This makes my MAC so much easier to use and that's what it is all about.

Improved functionality, speed and cross OS compatibility

I excitedly opened the Office 2011 for Mac box after receiving it in the mail. The straightforward installation went smoothly enough, albeit somewhat slower than I had expected. All of the included features, Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, started up slowly for their initial run. The status messages during start indicated that the product was examining the font available on the system and performing other first-run routines. After the initial run, Word, Excel and Powerpoint started extremely quickly. The ribbon interface is pleasing and easy to use.

The amount of feature in all the Office suite packages is somewhat overwhelming. If you need a basic Office suite, than iWork or Office 2011 should be more than adequate. I purchased Office 2011 only to ensure 100% compatibility with Word, Excel, and Powerpoint documents for my job and school. I prefer iWork for its simplicity, however, hardcore word processing, financial spreadsheet users, or presentation creators should find no major issues with Office 2011.
