Reviewed by Janette (2012-05-14) MacBook Pro is the best in its class The MacBook Pro I purchased from MacMall has replaced my three-year-old HP Compaq. It's presented a bit of new experience for me, going from Windows to Mac. And it was great. The MacBook Pro is fast, bright, and most importantly, very capable.
The i7 processor of my MacBook Pro is very reliable. It is really fast, no frame freezes, and just pure bliss to switch from one app to another. I have tried an i7 on a Windows PC (Samsung) but there is a discernible speed difference in favor of the MacBook Pro. It has to do, I suspect, from the way these system components are put together to make them perform nicely.
The screen is very lovely. I Photoshop, watch brrip movies, and go on video conferences and the screen is just magnificent. The 15 inches of screen real estate makes me bask in crisp and vivid images. Nice decision that I got this size of the MacBook Pro. I originally intended to get a 13 incher so it would be more portable. But this 15-inch MacBook Pro fits me right, as it turned out.
All in all I'm happy with my purchase. I ended up with a very capable machine. The MacBook Pro is definitely worth investing on. |

Reviewed by Bradda Zeek (2012-05-03) WoW! MacBook Pro is Awesome.....Awesome..... Had this 17in MBP for a few weeks. I Love the fact it is blazing fast. I had a white Macbook 2008 model and it lasted 4 yrs and it's still going but what I needed for now it would mean to upgrade. Why not upgrade to a new laptop and the blowout specials was the perfect answer.
For the everyday use (email, web, etc.) this is way too powerful but no worries it keeps up when you start using other apps/software with multiple windows.
I DJ for a hobby and this 17in MBP keeps up and with the 750 gb of storage I will be using for sure. No need to have an external hard drive connected. Unless this becomes a desktop it has plenty of USB to use.
The screen is beautiful for iPhoto or any other photo software. Sound it is crisp for a laptop. I'm getting better to use the track pad. The multi gestures are a plus since working in multiple windows it helps just swipe or zoom in/out. |

Reviewed By skypilotJHW (2012-04-13) MacBook Pro: Everything and more I've had my MacBook Pro for two weeks now and find it to be everything and more in what I expected. I'm coming from a Samsung NetBook which I had for three years. Unfortunately there was a design flaw in the Samsung N10 which causes the unit's display to white out. My daughter has had a MacBook Pro for about 5 years now and absolutely loves it. As is normal for Apple products, the MacBook is quite pricey but now I'm convinced that it's more than worth paying in some cases, double what you would for a PC product. I've always had both Mac and PC products and for me the whole Mac/PC rivalry is just hype.
The MacBook I have has 8GB memory and after research have found out you can actually bump the 2011 MacBooks up to 16GB memory which I'll probably do. I have a 500GB hard drive and have found that I could swap out the SuperDrive for a second drive and actually take the HD memory to over 1T.
The Solid State Drive option – SSD – I researched this before I purchased and decided not to go with the SSD. It did improve the speed quite a bit but the cost increase is significant. I've also installed Parallel to operate Microsoft Windows platform. Getting this up and running was both challenging and frustrating but now that it's up it works great. The frustrations all came from the Microsoft copyright issues and have since found that Microsoft does not allow you to migrate Windows that was purchased with a machine over to another machine even if you have the product key. That was maddening. I had a product key from my old PC and had erased the hard drive like I was told. It still wouldn't migrate. I did find and old stand-alone XP disc that worked great. So if you're thinking about using both MAC and PC platforms are prepared to do some work or purchase a new stand-alone Microsoft OS product. I have found that XP Professional runs about 45% faster on the Mac computer than it did in any of my other PC machines (including my work PC which is a year old). I was very impressed by this speed.
I've also tried it out with my High Def TV. WOW!!! So smooth to transition from the laptop screen to the big screen. It did it all automatically. I really LOVE this feature and the video is crisp and clear on the big screen too.
Two observations that I wouldn't even call criticisms are... the touch pad takes some getting use to, very sensitive, but smooth to run with one hand. I was recently in a chat session and accidentally ended the session when the computer misunderstood one of my gestures for going back to last screen. It was user error and very minor. The second is the sound. The reviews were right on target when they said the sound in the 13" is not nearly as good as the 15" MacBook Pro. But it isn't bad either. Again, minor.
All in all the MacBook Pro 13" is a great machine and I would recommend it HANDS DOWN to anyone looking for a new laptop. Superior to all 5 that I've had in the past. |

Reviewed by LittleAngel (2012-03-15) 15in MBP is pure awesomenessReally nice. It’s a bit on the heavy side, physically, but it is well worth every inch and gram. The 15-inch screen is wonderful. It looks amazing not only when you watch movies, but even when you do nothing with it and just stare at your wallpaper ? Also, the battery life is very decent. Wish it could get better mileage though. But, as it is, the MacBook Pro is one of the longest-running laptops I have ever used.
Apart from the weight, there really is nothing more that I find bad about the MacBook Pro. It is an awesome machine. The i5 processor is blazingly fast. I could fire up multiple documents and still get a responsive computer. Photoshop and iMovie at the same time? No sweat.
As for the build quality, the MacBook Pro is every bit a work of art and an achievement in industrial design. I find the MBP exterior well put together. Compared to other laptops, the MBP is way prettier. In addition, you wouldn’t mind lugging the computer around because you will feel confident about the unibody design. It’s just as tough as it looks.
This is my first Mac and I still can’t get over the surprise and awe that this machine exudes. Looks like a lot of surprises are still in store for me as I discover my MacBook Pro more and more. Right now, I’m very satisfied with my purchase and I think it’d be a while before I pay attention to any Windows PC both at home or in the office. |

Reviewed by JW(2012-03-07) Love this Mac!!I'm not sure how I managed before I bought this Mac. I teach at a University so I manage a large amount of word and excel documents, as well as powerpoints. This Mac lets me run all three of those applications and a browser window without batting an eyelash. It’s that fast!! I can have a bunch of tabs open in my browser and still run multiple applications without anything slowing down or freezing on me. I bought Microsoft Office for Mac and have had no Mac/PC conversion issues with sending files to co-workers running on PC.
I love that I can put my Mac to sleep with any of those applications running and then just open it back up and it’s all right there for me again. No more closing everything out and then reopening if I have to step away from what I'm working on. It loads everything back up almost instantly too.
I'm pretty impressed with the battery power. I can work almost nonstop on my computer for hours before I need to plug it in.
Did I mention how all this comes in a lightweight package? I almost bought the Mac Air, but this was only 1.4lbs heavier for a ton more memory and more speed. I'm very happy I bought the Pro.
Also, I'm a convert from a PC laptop. I hadn't used a Mac regularly in at least ten years. I had no problems switching back to a Mac. I checked out the online videos that the Mac website has to learn the touchpad and other features and I was good to go.
I love this Mac. Highly recommend to anyone that wants a speedy computer to handle a variety of applications quickly and easily. |
