The MacBook Pro Retina display boasts of the highest-resolution notebook display. It packs over 5 million pixels on its 2880x1800 Retina display. That's 3 million pixels more than an HDTV's, allowing you to see your photos and videos on a new level of realism. Additionally, the Retina display technology also gives the MacBook Pro more color and contrast, but with less glare. The result is a remarkably vibrant, detailed, and pin-sharp screen real estate.
It's the most advanced MacBook to date. The MacBook Pro Retina also sports an all-flash architecture, designed for better performance and faster data transfer rate. And, with the latest Intel processors and graphics, the MacBook Pro is a dependable notebook computer for graphics-intensive applications, games, and more. Love it and I'm getting used to it!!
The Apple 15.4" MacBook Pro with Retina display is an upgrade for me since my last MacBook Pro was from 2008. The one thing I have to get used to is the track pad, as it's different than the 2008 MBP, but it's sinking in more and more each day. I was also surprised there was not an optical drive and I may have to get the external, but haven't decided on that yet. The design is nice, it's thin, the screen is clear and brilliant and its fast. Oh, I know the MBP's have had the black keys since 2009, but I preferred when it was all the same color like the 2008 models - not really a big deal just my preference!!

Great Portable System
The MacBook Pro (4th generation) is just what I am looking for. It’s fast, light, easy to use, and I am sure, very sturdy. The additional battery life means that i can use it on foreign flights and in locations that don’t have available power. The 512G storage means that I carry all my critical files with me. This is particularly important to me when traveling in regions where wifi isn’t present. The renting screen is easy to read. Given the locations where I need a laptop computer, this product is perfect for me. As always, the store got the product to me quickly and has answered questions about setup that I had. Thank you and well done.

I got exactly what I wanted and saved money
When my venerable 2006 17" MacBook Pro died (I’m pretty sure it was either the video card or the logic board) I wanted to replace it. I found the current MacBooks frustrating. First, this is a working computer. I need an ethernet port (sorry, guys, but it still seems faster and more secure than WiFi.) Second, my old MacBook Pro was backed up with Time Machine through a Firewire 800 connection and I wanted Firewire.800. Third, I need an optical drive for files from business associates on CDs, and I have a couple hundred music CDs to load into iTunes. I could add an outboard USB SuperDrive to a MacBook Air but then I lose some of the Mac’s beautiful simplicity. The MacBook Pro 15.4" meets all these requirements, but it also has a glassy-glossy display. This must have a lot of showroom appeal because most laptops have it. (Have you noticed that a lot of desktop monitors other than Macs are going back to non-glare screens?) I was not looking forward to paying big bucks to Apple to add antiglare, but then I found this package at this store for much less than it would have cost from Apple. PERFECT! It even has 8Gb RAM and 1 TB hard drive. SOLD. I love this computer. I got everything I wanted and nothing I didn’t want, and I saved big bucks doing it. The 1440 x 900 pixel display is needle-sharp and easy on the eyes. I’m glad I did not spend extra for the Retina display. The computer starts up quickly and wakes from sleep very fast. It is a complete pleasure to use. Thank you for putting this excellent package together.

The best classic MacBook Pro you can buy (period)
I did not want to jump on the retina train just yet. I always felt the 2009-2012 MacBook Pros are the best MacBook Pro that still catered to professionals. The ability to update the memory and storage to my configurations after purchase is still import to some consumers. Sure the Retina is really nice to look at. But this machines Hi-Res Antiglare display is very, very good. Same DPI as the 13" MacBook Air. Once I received the machine in perfect condition from MacMall I increased the RAM from 8 to 16 GB and added a 512GB Samsung 840 Pro to the optical bay with removal of the optical drive since I have an external Bluray writer. The SSD in the Optical Bay is flawless once you run the EFI Update from November 2012. I am getting 500/500 read/write scores on Disk Speed Test from BlackMagicDesign in my setup. The 1TB original hard drive is still sitting in the same bay to take advantage of the fall sensors. I use the 1TB hard drive to catch all my video transfers from old Hi-8, VHS, Tivo, game play and other spinning media that I own and then edit them for use on my media center or iPad. This machine is currently the best classic unibody MacBook Pro machine you can buy.

Thumbs up for optical drive and USB 3.0
I know the MacBook Pro with Retina display’s been all the rage lately, but this 15.4” MacBook Pro is the perfect laptop for me. The display looks amazing even without the Retina display, I suppose that’s due to the fact that I was wise enough to steer clear of the Retina display MBPs in the first place. The display’s bright and sharp enough for me to enjoy watching videos on the laptop.
I love the fact that this MBP has an optical drive, which is personally one of the major advantages of this laptop. I regularly make copies of my kids’ home videos for my parents and other relatives, so this laptop’s fast DVD-burning abilities are a huge plus for me. File transfer through the laptop’s USB 3 port is also incredibly fast. I was able to transfer about 155 GB worth of files in under half an hour. The last time I tried that, it took me over an hour.
This MacBook Pro is also a great size for me, it allows me to open windows side by side without having to do much resizing. It also feels very sturdy when I use it. It’s slightly harder to carry around since it really doesn’t fit into most of my bags, but it’s still pretty portable and lightweight.

Love the MacBook Pro (mid-2012)
I have owned PowerBooks and earlier generations of MacBooks, but my youngest 17" was getting long in the tooth. The question was whether to purchase a brand new 15" Retina Display or the slightly older, but still available 15" mid-2012 model. I chose the latter. This was for functionality reasons. I wanted a built-in Superdrive. I understand that many users will find an external optical drive sufficient; but in my role as a music reviewer, Music Director and programmer of two music shows on a public radio station, I "Need" a built in player for reviewing and playback of music for on-air purposes. It's simply more cumbersome to lug around an external device. That said, I love the speed, quietness, screen resolution and the sufficiently large ATA drive. I have this MacBook tethered to a 27" Apple Cinema Display when at home, and I love that experience. Yes, it would be nice to have SSD drive, but for a system needing half to a full TB of HD space that is just too expensive at this time. I'm delighted with my purchase.

I'm delighted with my MacBook Pro Laptop!
I did NOT want to use a laptop at all, but I need one this month for a seminar I'm attending that has all information on a thumb drive to use with a laptop or other device. My husband talked me into getting a MacBook Pro. I was positive I would not like it at all and would be giving it to one of our sons as soon as the seminar was over. Wrong!
The MacBook Pro 13-inch laptop is delightful to use! The keyboard is so much like the keyboard of my iMac (which I also love using) and is extremely easy to type on. The screen image is sharp, and the laptop is very fast. I am enjoying using it so much more than I ever imagined I would. While I will not give up my large screen iMac which I use for a lot of publishing work (newsletters, brochures, etc.), I will use this laptop on trips and for other such seminars as I will attend. I love Macs, and I'm loving this laptop!
The absolutely only thing I wish were different is that it is just a little heavier than I like, but that's not the fault of this laptop. I think I will be able to carry it, however. It is much lighter than my husband's laptop.

Best laptop out there
I usually don’t leave reviews, but this computer is so good that I have to. I’ve been a lifelong PC fanatic and I still have a very high powered gaming PC desktop that I love. That said, this is clearly the best laptop on the market. Apple was right to call the Retina Macbook Pro their best laptop ever. I bought the 15" model with 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM and 2.6GHz quad core which isn’t available here anymore. At $2400 it’s the most expensive laptop I’ve ever bought, but well worth it. My laptops take a beating and this computer shows no signs of use.
The store was offering a $600 discount on this computer so I couldn’t say no. The build quality is top notch, the screen is the best out there, the SSD and i7 quad core absolutely flies. Battery life is good at around 6 hours with max brightness, but my brother’s Macbook Air can outlast it given that the Air is far less powerful. Keyboard and mouse are the best out there and work great with OSX.
All in all there’s a reason Apple charges $3k for this particular model and it’s because there really is no competition out there. It simply is mindblowing that this computer is so thin and light despite being so powerful. If you can grab one on sale I’d recommend it, but if you’re willing to pay full price, wait for the Haswell Macbook Pros which should drop soon since the Haswell Macbook Airs already released.

Fast and furious!
As a casual, impatient user, of my laptop I'm more than satisfied with the speed at which I can get work done. Nothing yet seems to slow me down, but I'm not a gamer nor do I need to open "75" apps at once -- I feel confident that I could challenge it to see what it would do though! Downloading happens in a blink of an eye. I have the solid state drive which is expensive to replace, so I opted for a 3 year Apple Care program should it fail. The retina display is the same size as the laptop I replaced this with but of course wildly beautiful. I like a smaller screen size obviously, but really like the slimness and lighter weight of my new laptop. My 4 year old keyboard and HP PhotosmartC5550 printer connected seamlessly, another 'whew' moment. New to me: Airplay in which I can show photos, for example, on my TV;2 thunderbolt connections instead of USB. 2 USB 4.0 ports, an HDMI connection. I'm happy, happy, happy!

Packed with Features for the Price
Just got my MacBook Pro... delivered in 3 days, opened the box and ready to go. This is my first mac and the only thing I wish I did differently was get it earlier. There are a few things that take getting used to, primarily keyboard layout and file placement but these are very minor. I was a little concerned about the lack of an optical drive but this has not proven to be a problem at all. I downloaded Parallels and Office from their respective sites. They came down quickly and I had them up and running in about 20 minutes each. In terms of the former, I honestly think Windows 7 runs better on my Mac than on my previous laptop. Overall I am quite pleased and would recommend this to anyone looking to replace their laptop.

Packed with Features for the Price
My PC died in mid-May, and since my experiences with my last two PCs have been painful, I decided to make the move to a Mac. I wanted a laptop that would replace my desktop, including a powerful processor, ample memory, and a reasonably large screen for a laptop.
The Apple store prices made me gulp. And I couldn't find machines at other resellers that had all of my desired features. Then I found this unit from this store. It has everything I wanted at a competitive price.
It's very speedy at crunching numbers and loading webpages, runs very quietly, and was very easy to set up. I'm finding the Mac experience very enjoyable, even with the inevitable frustrations that come with changing platforms, including learning new menus and discovering that I needed to buy Parallels, a Windows OS, and Quicken for Windows to keep managing my finances as well as I did on my PC.
The loaded OS was Lion, not Mountain Lion, which doesn't bother me, and the unit can run quite hot on the underside, which won't bother me if that doesn't threaten the computer's components. All in all, a great buy that I'd recommend to anyone with similar preferences.

one of the finest laptops out there!
I have a few different laptops for comparison, including a 17" macbook pro and a lenovo from 2 years ago. The thing that strikes me about this MBPr is the amazing design and polish of the machine. It exudes a classy character, and feels expensive! So far, I like the retina display, it is sharp and clear. The white balance of the display is warmer than the cold bluish tint of the non-retina display.
At first it seems a touch duller that others, but it is so, so natural and non-fatiguing! (when the iPhone 5 came out, many noticed the tint changed compared to the 4S as well) I don't notice any ghosting or image retention, but I have not looked all that hard. I just use the computer like it was meant to be used. The laptop is zippy-fast and the graphics are smooth. I have no fan-noises either. I am trying really hard to fault anything on this machine, but here it goes: New power connector requires a not-included- adapter. Price - this thing costs! Add in the price of the Superdrive, ethernet adapter and so on, and you add another 100 bucks to the product. Outside of that little quibble, I love this machine.
For laughs, I sometimes work on my Lenovo… a slow, cheap hunk of plastic, that updates every time I turn it on. To be fair, it was only a grand, but it really lets you know what you paid for with the MBPr

Worth every penny - no regrets
I've been using this MacBook Pro for a couple of months and I have yet to run into a major problem. I got the laptop to complement/replace my main computer and so I can do work outside the house.
The processor is excellent, makes this MacBook Pro leagues more capable than my old PC. The OS is also very user-friendly, syncing files and software between my old PC and new MacBook Pro has been hassle-free. One of the things I like most about this laptop is that it runs very quietly, even after many hours of heavy use. It very rarely gets hot, too, so I can use it on my lap for hours.
This laptop just seems very well-built to me. The body itself feels solid, like it's going to last me years without breaking or falling apart. The multi-touch trackpad is turning out to be a huge convenience, as is the LED-backlit keyboard.

13.3” MacBook Pro – perfect size and function
I was looking for a laptop I could use when working at home and I couldn't be happier that I went for a 13.3" MacBook Pro. The first thing I like about it is its size. It's not so small that I have to adjust my posture while working and it's not so big that it's unwieldy and I can't carry it comfortably. Of course, being an Apple product, the MBP is also a looker and feels very solid, probably due to its unibody construction. The other two features I love about the MBP is its large trackpad and backlit keyboard - makes using the MacBook so much more convenient. I was also pleasantly surprised by its battery life. Running at full speed, my MacBook lasts for about 5 to 6 hours.
Of course, the Mountain Lion OS coupled with the i5 processor makes most programs run smoothly. Multi-tasking is a breeze, so it's been a godsend in terms of my productivity. MBPs may be a bit more expensive, but I consider mine as a great investment.

This was a no-brainer! As expected, this computer blows everything else I have ever used out of the water. It’s portable...fast...responsive...stylish...everything you would expect from Apple. Plus, the screen is absolutely brilliant. If you are in the market for a 13" MBP, spend a little more to get the i7 and 256GB - trust me - it’s worth it.

MacBook Pro is one Great Laptop!
I have never owned a MacBook prior to this. I am in-fact a "PC user" and have been for the past 20+ years. However, I got my first taste of Mac a few months ago when I changed jobs and now understand the hype.
My PC at home was near the end of its journey and was "seeing the light at the end of the tunnel". I made the choice to purchase this 17" MacBook Pro as my desktop replacement. I could not be more happier.
The machine is outstanding. As far as design is concerned, it is about a bulky as most other 17" laptops with the exception that it is thinner - at least it appears to be.
The graphics are great and I have used it for some 3D gaming (mostly EVE Online) and it is outstanding. However, the GPU can get pretty hot. You'll notice the heat on the back/bottom of the laptop and metal bar above the function keys in front of the MacBook Pro logo.
While the machine runs a bit on the warm side when rendering 3D graphics, it is still well within normal tolerances for the equipment. I think part of this is that the metal skin radiates heat while the plastic case of most PC's don't. I am sure the GPU's would actually be running as close to the same temperatures.

Great, solid machine
This machines is solid, the 16GB of RAM makes it soar through anything you throw at it. It shows even in booting up and shutting down. The Flash hard drive makes opening large files smooth and fast. It’s awesome coming from a 7-year-old Core Duo MacBook. It may be a bit overkill for what I’m going to be using it for, but it’s absolutely amazing. It will be nice to get back into photo editing as my old machine didn’t handle it well at all.
If you’re on the fence about getting so much RAM or the bigger hard drive, after reading other reviews- keep in mind that they’re soldered on and not user replaceable. Made it a no-brainer for me. The store also contacted me with free expedited shipping with Applecare purchase, something I was going to get anyway, so I got it the next day for free!

Way more than expected
I work in tech support for a university in Texas. I have been handling Apple products of all sorts over the years. The Macbook Pro has always been a favorite when I get a new one come in (they almost never break).
So my PC desktop died and my old 2008 Macbook couldn't handle doing the video editing I do as a freelance videographer. The old Macbook took 10 hours to export a 5 minute clip and the same clip on the new Macbook Pro took 10 minutes. No contest.
I love this Mac way more than expected and its power is way more than expected. I went from a PC desktop with an Intel Core2Quad and 8GB of RAM to this MBP running an i7 and 16GB. I knew it'd be an upgrade, but I had no idea how much better it is.
I've been carrying it everywhere, it is really thin and light. For SXSW, I spent a day with it in my backpack along with all my photo/video gear and it didn't break my back. The battery life is damn good for what it is, a portable desktop. I can get around 4-6 hours doing video/photo/audio editing on the go. I think I could see 10 hours if I did light internet work with word processing.
The Retina display setting felt cramped to me, so I bumped it up one notch and now the 15 in. screen look like a 17. The clarity and color depth of this panel have no competition from what I've seen of the current market.
I've been regularly running this Pro with a 2nd display editing video, exporting a video, audio editing, watching Netflix and internet surfing all at the same time. It barely even registers as taxed by that.
The downsides are typical. Chrome can't full-screen Youtube videos if you install the Adobe Flash plugin, so don't install it and let Chrome use its plugin. For me, the 256GB SSD is a little small, but the USB 3.0 ports make loading an external drive a snap. No native NTFS support but there is Tuxera for that. No other glaring issues as I am accustomed to OSX and I moved my working OSX image from my old 08 Macbook.

The absolute BEST laptop I have ever owned!!!
This laptop is hands-down the BEST laptop I have ever owned!!! It is the very first time I have ever bought any of the Macbook products, and I was initially hesitant because I can literally buy 3 notebook computers from another brand for one MacBook Pro! However, my friends and co-workers highly recommended the MacBook Pro because they emphasized the huge difference between Apple laptops and laptops from other brands.
Once I received my MacBook Pro, I couldn't be happier!!! I didn't have to wait eons for my laptop to start, and the set-up was so smooth and easy! I love how my MacBook is so light and easy to carry and store away, and incredibly user-friendly! My previous two laptops were HP, and they weren't bad. But they were standard laptops that took a while to boot up and function, and even after I had to replace the battery for my last HP laptop, it still would fizzle and conk out on me.
The battery life for my MacBook is just perfect!! I hardly have to charge it up that many times, and it's always good to go!! I really can't think of anything bad to say about it!! I have definitely gotten bitten by the Apple bug, and I seriously can't go back to any other computer!!

First of all I can say that I was amazed at the swift, fantastic job done by the store. They were on their game, and very professional! I feel like it was too short of a process! They were very professional and shipped this computer the within days. It was packed with great care. As far as my MBP, I feel that I got a killer deal and it is the best laptop I have ever owned. The battery life is amazing!
I'm a lifetime Windows/PC user who converted to the Macbook in 2008. This Macbook pro is a sturdier/sleeker design than the previous Macbooks. The software is as good as it gets. Startups/shutdowns are lightning fast. Internet/wifi connectivity works perfectly (as with any apple product). Safari is a weak browser, so I suggest using Firefox or Chrome - this will unleash the best web-surfing experience. This OS allows you to do Airplay - which has made music/movies much more enjoyable (I project them to my TV).
Yes, it's pricier than the PC laptops out there. But so worth it.

MacBook Pro Gets Better and Better
I bought my first Mac in October 1984 and was amazed. Now, with my new MacBook Pro with Retina display, I am still amazed. And yet, despite the many differences, it is still a Mac and I feel comfortable and right at home. The migration from my 2008 MacBook Pro to my new one went smoothly, and I sort of felt left out as there was almost nothing for me to do. It moved everything I wanted without any input from me.
The entire package is almost perfect. The only minor complaints I have is that there is not a separate button / bar to click. Also, the metal where I open my MacBook Pro is a little sharp and awkward to use. I am sure that both complaints with fade with continued usage. All in all, I can't help but wonder what features could possibly be included that will make me want another in the future. I look forward to being amazed again.

1st Time MacBook Pro Owner
I'm very impressed with my MacBook Pro with Retina display and quad-core. I am a freelance photographer and web content specialist who has been using Adobe Creative Suite 6 on my work PC. For my personal and freelance work, I had been using a stationary PC, and its dual core processor has been too slow to handle the hundreds of large photo files I shoot at weddings and events.
I'm finding it easy to learn the new features of my MacBook, as it came loaded with short video tutorials instructing on iTunes, Mail, Safari, and every other application already installed. I can still open my Microsoft Word and Excel documents, and I can still use the right-click function, which is one of the multi-touch gestures on my track pad.
I just can't get over the amazing picture quality that this new little MacBook has! Mac technology is far superior to any PC, too. It's a perfect size to use for everything because it's easy to take with you, yet not so small that you can't fit anything on the screen. Just love it!

MacBook Pro with Retina Display: Perfection
This MacBook Pro (with Retina display) replaces my faithful white MacBook of 2007 vintage running Mac OS 10.5.8. The local Apple Store completed the data transfer.
The new OS (Mountain Lion) does not support my old version of Office for Mac 2004, nor my old Lexmark X75 all-in-one inkjet printer. This is not all bad, as it forced me to update Office software to 2011 and to an HP all-in-one that had been part of my 2007 purchase, but remained unused. However, the old white MacBook coped with the older software and printer well.
As to the new MacBook Pro (with Retina display), this reflects the progress made over the years from 2007, both in hardware and software. The result in my estimation is, as the review title indicates, the perfect laptop; and a work of art.
