Kudos to MacMall! And yey to my MacBook Pro

Having a MacBook Pro of my own is one of my dreams. But now that I can have my own, the bad news is that, I don’t have the time to go to Apple Store or to PowerMac Center. But I really wanted to have a MacBook Pro, especially now that my old laptop already rest in peace and a laptop is one of my most important requirements in what I am currently doing.
I checked on the net to search a reliable online store where I would but my MacBook Pro unit. I came across MacMall, checked it and read quite a number of feedbacks about the store; most are all pleasant so I decided to experience it firsthand. I pick up the phone, had a good talk, well, I was impressed really as to how the sales representative spoke to me, it’s as if she’s my friend. And yes, the transaction was very smooth. And kudos to MacMall because they really did their promise, I got my purchase on time. Of course before letting the delivery man leave my place, I checked on the box and the product in front him, and I was very pleased to find out that the product is really fresh and I am the first to unbox it.
And yey!! I got my MacBook Pro. Indeed, experience is the best teacher. Reading reviews about it versus getting the hold of it and using it? Wow. Until now I am still fascinated with the fact that it lets me work out of the box and its really fast!!

MacBook pro! I didn’t even regret buying this.

I’ve been a solid user of Windows Operating Systems for my freelance works and video editing needs (Conservative lad, here). A friend referred me to Mac’s OS and told me about the great stuff for video professionals. Since I’m new to that, I don’t want to buy an entire desktop yet. Instead, I bought an amazing laptop to bring it with me wherever I go.

This MacBook Pro is every video professional’s dream. It has excellent processors with huge RAM and Hard drive capacity. It doesn’t lag nor slows when I’m running my software or streaming my videos. And this is simply outstanding when it comes to graphics and display with its exquisite GPU and of course, Retina Display.

What’s more, Apple’s MacBook pro is really great if you’re into 4K video editing. It has Thunderbolt 2 ports that has a speed of 20GB/s and is definitely ideal for 4K video editing and streaming. I didn’t experience even a slightest form of lag.

All in all, MacBook Pro in any size has avant-garde processors, huge internal and RAM storage, high-performance GPU and excellent speed; this laptop will give you a run for your money. I didn’t even regret buying this.

MacBook pro!

Being an iSheep (that’s how people calls an Apple lovers/fans/followers) since I knew about Apple, I’ve always wanted to own an Apple device to be able to utilize it FIRST HAND. And because I am now capable of owning one, I decided to purchase a MacBook Pro, at MacMall online store. I chose MacMall online store because I saw an ad of them somewhere in a particular website that I am browsing last time.

Thanks to the accommodating and friendly representative of MacMall that explained to me everything that I need to know about purchasing via their online store. I was pleased that my product arrives just on time.

As for the MacBook Pro, I always wanted to purchase a powerful, advanced and a laptop device that can keep me with my heavy workloads, on a day-to-day basis and that is Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere related grinds. Of course, being an iSheep automatically requires having quite to an ample knowledge about Apple device, and so I knew very well that the MacBook Pro would best suit my needs and the demands of my work, for that matter.

Being a first time user of Apple involves a lot of awkward pauses. Literally and figuratively, because as all we know, Apple is made to be different from the mainstream and by that being said, the features, from the simplest to the most complicated ones are definitely different. But hey, the catch here is when you get used to it, everything runs smoothly and easily. MacBook Pro indeed is a strong and a reliable laptop device especially for someone like me whose work is almost heavy every day and needs a sturdy device to support my software and its outputs.

A thin and lightweight but powerful MacBook Pro

These days, work and play become intertwined. Owning a laptop that can handle both your entertainment and your workload will be saving you money. If you’re looking for a laptop that can keep up with your active digital lifestyle, then this MacBook Pro is perfect for you. It may be thin and lightweight, but don’t let it fool you. It’s full of power and can go for up to 10 hours with one charge.

This MacBook Pro gives the best visual experience I have ever seen from a laptop. Its Retina display is said to have over 4 million pixels, giving the best pictures and visuals that almost as if they are really there with me in physical form. Aside from its amazing display, the MacBook Pro features 4th-generation dual-core processor and the latest PCIe-based flash storage. So, no matter what I’m doing, writing a document, streaming a movie or even editing one, this MacBook Pro helps me do my tasks quickly and with ease.

What I find really great about this computer is that all these features are encased in a shiny, aluminum case. It is classy, sturdy and functional. I bring it wherever I go, and use it for every task I have. It is my go-to computer. It is the perfect laptop for on-the-go persons who need to stay connected to the world and to their work at all times.

Absolutely Amazing!

Arrived on time, with no signs of wear or tear and very well packed. I'm extremely pleased with its performance and noticeable speed when moving between programs and apps; that's the solid state drive working its magic. For an SSD of this capacity and the 8 GBs of RAM I think this is a very reasonable price for those who can afford to buy something a little more expensive. Feels very sturdy - well built and runs smoothly; should last me a good few years.

One thing I would comment on is the lack of superior battery life. In my experience the laptop tends to keep a charge for about six to six and a half hours. This was expected as the advertised time was about 7 hours, but I find myself out of battery much quicker than I would like. I recommend buying a case or sleeve with large enough room to store your charger with you at all times; for those that travel a lot or use their laptop all day long this is essential. If you have the money and it is of great importance for you to have a longer charge I might suggest buying one of the newer models with a marketed 9 hours of battery life. These are however more expensive :/

Another key point is the INABILITY TO UPGRADE INTERNALLY. All the new Macbook Pros (i.e the "Retina" line) now ship with RAM, storage, and battery welded or glued to the mainframe of the computer. It is extremely difficult if not impossible to upgrade this thing, which is a major annoyance to those like me who like to customize. Doing so (or attempting to do so) will also void your warranty. If ability to modify your computer is important to you this is not the laptop for you. Personally though this is irritating for me I have found the internal specs on this MacBook to be already good enough. It runs like a dream.

Overall if you're looking for a great machine with a large capacity SSD and a good amount of storage (RAM) this is a really nice MacBook. It's harder to get viruses on Macs, and it syncs automatically with my iPhone so I am more than pleased with this purchase. Good deal! Great shipping! Really cool product!

Absolutely recommended!

First Mac Computer

Although I gave my wife a MacBook Pro several years ago, I have been a PC guy for many years. I finally got tired of all the glitches and viruses and decided to get the lightweight MacBook Air. I intend to use it for documents and data projection as I teach college courses. I love the lightweight part. Even with the protective case it's still much lighter than any previous computer I've had. I'm getting used to using the Pages word processor and so far I don't think I need to add Microsoft Office. I have not yet attempted to connect the unit with a projector. I like the features and graphics, though the differences between Mac and PC make that a little challenging thus far. I'm sure I'll get comfortable with that soon. So, overall, I'm happy with the purchase thus far. I got the fastest processor available and I'm using an external hard drive to save many documents.

Mac Pro Retina 15-inch 2013 vintage

Just purchased my first Apple15-inch ZOPZ2LL/A MacBook Pro. I chose this for longevity. I am still working on the operation of this model. I use a new wireless laser printer with this device and setup was less than 10 minutes. I have not downloaded Mavericks as of yet, still too many ifs. I found this review board to be very helpful in solving the mysteries of my laptop.

I saved an enormous amount of money with this model, compared to the newer model. I have not needed a DVD writer as of yet. Even with my Tablet it just seems to be all there online! I do wish that a manual would have been included in the purchase. I am still working on why the photo pops up when I attempt to close down the MacBook Pro, it says it is still importing photos but none have arrived by syncing with iCloud. I use a wireless camera now and it works very well with this machine. I just use the Sleep icon when I decide to close down for the evening. Someday I will have everything figured out then it will be time to upgrade.

MacBook Pro Retina - Where Have You Been

Let’s put things into perspective. I’ve been an Apple fanboy since 1994 back in the days of the Performa-line, the first computer my parents bought for our home. Have had several desktops and laptops over the years. I had a 2009 MacBook Pro 17", then moved the other way to a 13" Mid-2012 Air. The Air was a fast machine but I was ready for something a little bit more powerful.

Why did I buy the 15” Mac Book Pro?

Retina display. It’s super crisp, 220 pixels per inch, capable of resolutions up to 2880 x 1800. Bigger screen. I use a mechanical keyboard with my laptop to avoid wrist strain. This puts me an additional feet away from the screen. With the 13” it was a lot harder to read. I kind of went from one extreme to the other going from a 17-inch laptop to a 13-inch.

Faster – Dual core vs quad core. The CPUs are more capable at multitasking and running CPU-intensive programs in general. The graphics are over 2 to 300% faster than what I was accustomed to with my HD 4000 graphics card. I’m starting to play more games to pass my time and the performance boost really comes in handy.

I usually upgrade my computers every 2-3 years. I doubt this Retina Pro will be any different. I really enjoy the system, it handles everything I throw at it with ease. I thought about getting the more expensive model, but with my upgrade frequency and the added heat of the discrete GPU I didn’t think it was the best investment. :)

Shipping was super quick and the lowest total price I was able to find anywhere including the Apple Store with an education discount.

MacBook Pro

"I purchased this MacBook Pro just after the New Year and I have to say that I really like it. I have owned Mac's for about 10 years now but this is the best portable I have owned so far. I like the feel of the case, the display is beautiful and it is loaded with RAM and a huge Hard Drive.

The Operating System is new for me, so it will take some familiarity to the differences. If I had to pick one thing that could be better, I would have to say that the internal speaker seems weaker than my last portable. I also don't like that every time I open up the lid to wake the computer from sleep, a little window pops up in the top right hand corner reminding me to upgrade to Mavericks.

I think the computer was a really good value, as I saved over $200 if I had purchased direct from Apple, plus it was tax-free and I received it in only 3 days. "

Upgraded from a MacBook Pro 2011, and...

"I’m very happy for my decision of getting this laptop. I had the early-2011 model 2.1Ghz/16MB/500Mb SSD and despite it being super-loaded, I still can see the difference, especially in performance and with the Retina. I didn’t think it was going to make a difference, but after few weeks, I still enjoy the high resolution every day.

This MacBook Pro is a little lighter, although not much different. Battery lasts much longer and the sound quality is a huge improvement. The only detail that I’ve noticed is that it gets hot after a while. My old computer would get hot on the base so it was hard to keep it on my lap after a while. The new one only gets hot on the keyboard area but doesn’t bother me when I’m typing. In general, I’m very happy with the decision, and saved nearly $400 buying it from MacMall since I didn’t pay taxes nor shipping."

Hugely pleased

I'm coming from Windows and Centos, so this is my first extended experience with Mac OS. This MacBook Pro replaced my old and failing ASUS laptop, and I wanted something hugely faster (i.e., SSD-based), but I was really tired of the Windows world and aware of how buggy Windows 8 is and how none of my software would work on RT. My daughter and son have MacBooks and I had some exposure to those, so I decided to take the plunge. My son and I split the purchase of Photoshop Elements and Microsoft Office 2011, and that is the additional software on this MacBook. I am hugely pleased with how fast this MacBook boots and how long it runs on the battery. I love the backlit keyboard, and the trackpad is BETTER than a mouse. Those of you using a trackpad know that, but it was news to me. I do all my Photoshop editing with the trackpad. I love the ease of switching apps with the four finger up-sweep to Mission Control. I FaceTime my daughter and grandson 1100 miles away, and being able to do that from my laptop with Airplay to my Apple TV and widescreen is just great. I haven't found anything yet that I can say I don't like.

Excellent Customer Service - Excellent Product

I called the store ahead of time to see if they had my product in stock - since on the Apple website they had a 1-2 week wait before delivery. They had my product in stock! Apparently the 16GB RAM upgraded 13.3" rMBP was not in stock for the manufacturer of this product. The lady I spoke with at this store was very nice, very efficient, and was able to quickly help me.

I work in a deployed location for the U.S. military and most products take 10-14 days to get out here. The store had my laptop and Magic Mouse delivered in 6. The packaging was very protective and my laptop and mouse both work excellently.

I’ve always been a Windows/Custom PC - Laptop guy. I decided with the degradation of the Windows platform and the poor quality of laptop components these days that making the switch to the MacBook Pro was the logical choice.

I am only sorry I didn’t switch sooner. This product is great. It loads like a dream, it’s REALLY intuitive, and the native apps are all amazing. I’ve always been an iPhone guy, now I’m an iPad guy, and now I’m a MacBook guy. I don’t want to sound like a groupie, but Apple has won my loyalty and their products are great.

On top of that, this store has won my loyalty as well, and their customer service is great. I could not be happier.

1st time Mac from Windows

Have been a lifelong Windows user, but got an iPhone 4s 2 years ago and was so impressed with the features and integration that Apple has perfected. I have been doing research on the many choices that Apple offers. I was going to purchase a MacBook Air but was swayed by a review of the new MacBook Pro. I am glad I chose the MacBook Pro. The retina display is worth the difference and is as good as its claims. The battery life exceeds the claimed endurance. I cannot say enough to do this laptop justice. I am glad I made the switch from Windows 8. Apple has it right. One feature I like the most is the ease of integration between Apple devices.

Amazing computer, great deal.

I purchased this MacBook during a Black Friday Sale. The computer shipped and arrived quickly. It works beautifully. The dedicated graphics is helpful if you are going to be doing any sort of visually intensive work. Further, the i7 processor is leaps and bounds above the i5. I run Parallels on this machine for all of the various programs that hiccup on OS X. The i7 handles the virtual machine and multitasking like a pro. Similar thoughts on 8GB of RAM. Honestly, I think 8 is somewhat of a sweet spot. 4 is typically too little and 16 is way too much. The Retina display is beautiful and delivers crisp HD. One warning though, any app that can run native on the retina display will look far worse and will show compression artifact as a well as a more pixelated and "blocky" appearance. This is largely a non-issue for me and is usually not too noticeable. Again, great computer for an amazing price.

Excellent!!!!

The agents were very helpful during the whole process of my order. I forgot to add few rebate items to my order and upon calling them back they assisted in modifying the order and also helped in arranging my order to be picked up from FedEx instead of home delivery, as I was not going to be home for receiving. My request to hold at FedEx was a last-minute request a day before my delivery and still the agents were helpful in making sure my request was fulfilled. I am glad I made a good decision to buy from this store. Great customer support.

Macbook Pro Retina 13.3

This is my first Apple computer, been mostly a Windows loyalist but really needed better battery life. I use this mostly for email/internet and entertainment with some casual graphic and video/photo editing thrown in there. Pros: Battery life is amazing, I can take this away with me for an overnight business trip and leave the charger at home. The retina screen is very clear. With the SSD this machine operates with almost no noise. Cons: No optical drive, although it hasn't hurt me yet it may hurt some. Price, it is a great machine but $1300 is a lot of money. Overall this is an outstanding product that I would buy again. Great software suite included, easy to use interface and superb hardware.

The Sweet Spot

I picked up the 13.3" MacBook Pro with Retina display because I wanted the opportunity to be more mobile with my writing. I was debating between this model and the 13.3" MacBook Air with its longer battery life. I did some investigation on both models and started to compare pricing for what it would take to buy the upgrades I would want for the lifetime of my MacBook, and what I would get for the money spent.

One of the key things to note with the MacBook Airs and the MacBook Pros with Retina displays is that they are all solid state in this current generation (late 2013). This reduces the ability of the consumer to upgrade certain components at a later date. The key component to consider when purchasing is your RAM which is soldered onto the motherboard preventing future upgrades. By the time I made the necessary upgrades to the MacBook Air, I was within $100 of the MacBook Pro for the same RAM and solid state drive and which offered me so much more for the money (Retina display, faster processor, etc.).

I chose to go ahead and buy the max RAM for this model for a little bit more. From my understanding of the reviews, there is not a significant improvement to processor performance until you jump into the quad cores of the 15.4" MacBook Pro so I left mine alone. For the money that you spend, this model (and the 8GB version) is the sweet spot of this generation.

Pros: Display: The Retina display is gorgeous. Now that I have it I can't imagine having gone with a model with a lesser display. The clarity of the text makes a big difference as I work, not to mention it is absolutely stunning when you view images or video.

Portability: 13.3” is the perfect size for portability. I can easily carry it with me, balance it on my lap in those odd times when you want to get a little bit of writing done while waiting around and the Retina version is within 1/2 pound of the Air.

Battery: The battery life lasts a good portion of the day under conservative usage (9 hours). It's not the 12 hours of the Air, but has been more than enough for my purposes, as long as I am sensitive to how many and which applications I have running.

Fast Boot Up / Wake from Sleep: With solid state everything, this MacBook Pro is incredibly responsive. The solid state drive also means you don’t have to worry as much about movement harming internal components since there are no spindle drives.

Solid State Upgrades: While not yet available, upgrades to the solid state drives should be in the offing from third party vendors in the near future.

Cons: Power: Because of all the power conservation utilities in Mavericks and on the hardware side, it helps to have the machine plugged into a wall socket for particularly intensive tasks (like streaming a movie through iTunes). (This could have been a slow internet connection issue, but I had more success once I plugged in).

Limited Upgrading: When buying a laptop there are certain things that have traditionally been upgradable in order to extend the computers life. In this generation it is important to plan for future usage and purchase the model with the memory you would want 5-7 years down the road.

Love it and I'm getting used to it!!

The Apple 15.4" MacBook Pro with Retina display is an upgrade for me since my last MacBook Pro was from 2008. The one thing I have to get used to is the track pad, as it's different than the 2008 MBP, but it's sinking in more and more each day. I was also surprised there was not an optical drive and I may have to get the external, but haven't decided on that yet. The design is nice, it's thin, the screen is clear and brilliant and its fast. Oh, I know the MBP's have had the black keys since 2009, but I preferred when it was all the same color like the 2008 models - not really a big deal just my preference!!

Great Portable System

The MacBook Pro (4th generation) is just what I am looking for. It’s fast, light, easy to use, and I am sure, very sturdy. The additional battery life means that i can use it on foreign flights and in locations that don’t have available power. The 512G storage means that I carry all my critical files with me. This is particularly important to me when traveling in regions where wifi isn’t present. The renting screen is easy to read. Given the locations where I need a laptop computer, this product is perfect for me. As always, the store got the product to me quickly and has answered questions about setup that I had. I got exactly what I wanted and saved money

When my venerable 2006 17" MacBook Pro died (I’m pretty sure it was either the video card or the logic board) I wanted to replace it. I found the current MacBooks frustrating. First, this is a working computer. I need an ethernet port (sorry, guys, but it still seems faster and more secure than WiFi.) Second, my old MacBook Pro was backed up with Time Machine through a Firewire 800 connection and I wanted Firewire.800. Third, I need an optical drive for files from business associates on CDs, and I have a couple hundred music CDs to load into iTunes. I could add an outboard USB SuperDrive to a MacBook Air but then I lose some of the Mac’s beautiful simplicity. The MacBook Pro 15.4" meets all these requirements, but it also has a glassy-glossy display. This must have a lot of showroom appeal because most laptops have it. (Have you noticed that a lot of desktop monitors other than Macs are going back to non-glare screens?) I was not looking forward to paying big bucks to Apple to add antiglare, but then I found this package at this store for much less than it would have cost from Apple. PERFECT! It even has 8Gb RAM and 1 TB hard drive. SOLD. I love this computer. I got everything I wanted and nothing I didn’t want, and I saved big bucks doing it. The 1440 x 900 pixel display is needle-sharp and easy on the eyes. I’m glad I did not spend extra for the Retina display. The computer starts up quickly and wakes from sleep very fast. It is a complete pleasure to use. Thank you for putting this excellent package together.

The best classic MacBook Pro you can buy (period)

I did not want to jump on the retina train just yet. I always felt the 2009-2012 MacBook Pros are the best MacBook Pro that still catered to professionals. The ability to update the memory and storage to my configurations after purchase is still import to some consumers. Sure the Retina is really nice to look at. But this machines Hi-Res Antiglare display is very, very good. Same DPI as the 13" MacBook Air. Once I received the machine in perfect condition from MacMall I increased the RAM from 8 to 16 GB and added a 512GB Samsung 840 Pro to the optical bay with removal of the optical drive since I have an external Bluray writer. The SSD in the Optical Bay is flawless once you run the EFI Update from November 2012. I am getting 500/500 read/write scores on Disk Speed Test from BlackMagicDesign in my setup. The 1TB original hard drive is still sitting in the same bay to take advantage of the fall sensors. I use the 1TB hard drive to catch all my video transfers from old Hi-8, VHS, Tivo, game play and other spinning media that I own and then edit them for use on my media center or iPad. This machine is currently the best classic unibody MacBook Pro machine you can buy.

Thumbs up for optical drive and USB 3.0

I know the MacBook Pro with Retina display’s been all the rage lately, but this 15.4” MacBook Pro is the perfect laptop for me. The display looks amazing even without the Retina display, I suppose that’s due to the fact that I was wise enough to steer clear of the Retina display MBPs in the first place. The display’s bright and sharp enough for me to enjoy watching videos on the laptop.

I love the fact that this MBP has an optical drive, which is personally one of the major advantages of this laptop. I regularly make copies of my kids’ home videos for my parents and other relatives, so this laptop’s fast DVD-burning abilities are a huge plus for me. File transfer through the laptop’s USB 3 port is also incredibly fast. I was able to transfer about 155 GB worth of files in under half an hour. The last time I tried that, it took me over an hour.

This MacBook Pro is also a great size for me, it allows me to open windows side by side without having to do much resizing. It also feels very sturdy when I use it. It’s slightly harder to carry around since it really doesn’t fit into most of my bags, but it’s still pretty portable and lightweight.

Love the MacBook Pro (mid-2012)

I have owned PowerBooks and earlier generations of MacBooks, but my youngest 17" was getting long in the tooth. The question was whether to purchase a brand new 15" Retina Display or the slightly older, but still available 15" mid-2012 model. I chose the latter. This was for functionality reasons. I wanted a built-in Superdrive. I understand that many users will find an external optical drive sufficient; but in my role as a music reviewer, Music Director and programmer of two music shows on a public radio station, I "Need" a built in player for reviewing and playback of music for on-air purposes. It's simply more cumbersome to lug around an external device. That said, I love the speed, quietness, screen resolution and the sufficiently large ATA drive. I have this MacBook tethered to a 27" Apple Cinema Display when at home, and I love that experience. Yes, it would be nice to have SSD drive, but for a system needing half to a full TB of HD space that is just too expensive at this time. I'm delighted with my purchase.

I'm delighted with my MacBook Pro Laptop!

I did NOT want to use a laptop at all, but I need one this month for a seminar I'm attending that has all information on a thumb drive to use with a laptop or other device. My husband talked me into getting a MacBook Pro. I was positive I would not like it at all and would be giving it to one of our sons as soon as the seminar was over. Wrong!

The MacBook Pro 13-inch laptop is delightful to use! The keyboard is so much like the keyboard of my iMac (which I also love using) and is extremely easy to type on. The screen image is sharp, and the laptop is very fast. I am enjoying using it so much more than I ever imagined I would. While I will not give up my large screen iMac which I use for a lot of publishing work (newsletters, brochures, etc.), I will use this laptop on trips and for other such seminars as I will attend. I love Macs, and I'm loving this laptop!

The absolutely only thing I wish were different is that it is just a little heavier than I like, but that's not the fault of this laptop. I think I will be able to carry it, however. It is much lighter than my husband's laptop.

Best laptop out there

I usually don’t leave reviews, but this computer is so good that I have to. I’ve been a lifelong PC fanatic and I still have a very high powered gaming PC desktop that I love. That said, this is clearly the best laptop on the market. Apple was right to call the Retina Macbook Pro their best laptop ever. I bought the 15" model with 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM and 2.6GHz quad core which isn’t available here anymore. At $2400 it’s the most expensive laptop I’ve ever bought, but well worth it. My laptops take a beating and this computer shows no signs of use.

The store was offering a $600 discount on this computer so I couldn’t say no. The build quality is top notch, the screen is the best out there, the SSD and i7 quad core absolutely flies. Battery life is good at around 6 hours with max brightness, but my brother’s Macbook Air can outlast it given that the Air is far less powerful. Keyboard and mouse are the best out there and work great with OSX.

All in all there’s a reason Apple charges $3k for this particular model and it’s because there really is no competition out there. It simply is mindblowing that this computer is so thin and light despite being so powerful. If you can grab one on sale I’d recommend it, but if you’re willing to pay full price, wait for the Haswell Macbook Pros which should drop soon since the Haswell Macbook Airs already released.

Fast and furious!

As a casual, impatient user, of my laptop I'm more than satisfied with the speed at which I can get work done. Nothing yet seems to slow me down, but I'm not a gamer nor do I need to open "75" apps at once -- I feel confident that I could challenge it to see what it would do though! Downloading happens in a blink of an eye. I have the solid state drive which is expensive to replace, so I opted for a 3 year Apple Care program should it fail. The retina display is the same size as the laptop I replaced this with but of course wildly beautiful. I like a smaller screen size obviously, but really like the slimness and lighter weight of my new laptop. My 4 year old keyboard and HP PhotosmartC5550 printer connected seamlessly, another 'whew' moment. New to me: Airplay in which I can show photos, for example, on my TV;2 thunderbolt connections instead of USB. 2 USB 4.0 ports, an HDMI connection. I'm happy, happy, happy!

Packed with Features for the Price

Just got my MacBook Pro... delivered in 3 days, opened the box and ready to go. This is my first mac and the only thing I wish I did differently was get it earlier. There are a few things that take getting used to, primarily keyboard layout and file placement but these are very minor. I was a little concerned about the lack of an optical drive but this has not proven to be a problem at all. I downloaded Parallels and Office from their respective sites. They came down quickly and I had them up and running in about 20 minutes each. In terms of the former, I honestly think Windows 7 runs better on my Mac than on my previous laptop. Overall I am quite pleased and would recommend this to anyone looking to replace their laptop.

Packed with Features for the Price

My PC died in mid-May, and since my experiences with my last two PCs have been painful, I decided to make the move to a Mac. I wanted a laptop that would replace my desktop, including a powerful processor, ample memory, and a reasonably large screen for a laptop.

The Apple store prices made me gulp. And I couldn't find machines at other resellers that had all of my desired features. Then I found this unit from this store. It has everything I wanted at a competitive price.

It's very speedy at crunching numbers and loading webpages, runs very quietly, and was very easy to set up. I'm finding the Mac experience very enjoyable, even with the inevitable frustrations that come with changing platforms, including learning new menus and discovering that I needed to buy Parallels, a Windows OS, and Quicken for Windows to keep managing my finances as well as I did on my PC.

The loaded OS was Lion, not Mountain Lion, which doesn't bother me, and the unit can run quite hot on the underside, which won't bother me if that doesn't threaten the computer's components. All in all, a great buy that I'd recommend to anyone with similar preferences.

one of the finest laptops out there!

I have a few different laptops for comparison, including a 17" macbook pro and a lenovo from 2 years ago. The thing that strikes me about this MBPr is the amazing design and polish of the machine. It exudes a classy character, and feels expensive! So far, I like the retina display, it is sharp and clear. The white balance of the display is warmer than the cold bluish tint of the non-retina display.

At first it seems a touch duller that others, but it is so, so natural and non-fatiguing! (when the iPhone 5 came out, many noticed the tint changed compared to the 4S as well) I don't notice any ghosting or image retention, but I have not looked all that hard. I just use the computer like it was meant to be used. The laptop is zippy-fast and the graphics are smooth. I have no fan-noises either. I am trying really hard to fault anything on this machine, but here it goes: New power connector requires a not-included- adapter. Price - this thing costs! Add in the price of the Superdrive, ethernet adapter and so on, and you add another 100 bucks to the product. Outside of that little quibble, I love this machine.

For laughs, I sometimes work on my Lenovo… a slow, cheap hunk of plastic, that updates every time I turn it on. To be fair, it was only a grand, but it really lets you know what you paid for with the MBPr

The processor is excellent, makes this MacBook Pro leagues more capable than my old PC. The OS is also very user-friendly, syncing files and software between my old PC and new MacBook Pro has been hassle-free. One of the things I like most about this laptop is that it runs very quietly, even after many hours of heavy use. It very rarely gets hot, too, so I can use it on my lap for hours.

13.3” MacBook Pro – perfect size and function

I was looking for a laptop I could use when working at home and I couldn't be happier that I went for a 13.3" MacBook Pro. The first thing I like about it is its size. It's not so small that I have to adjust my posture while working and it's not so big that it's unwieldy and I can't carry it comfortably. Of course, being an Apple product, the MBP is also a looker and feels very solid, probably due to its unibody construction. The other two features I love about the MBP is its large trackpad and backlit keyboard - makes using the MacBook so much more convenient. I was also pleasantly surprised by its battery life. Running at full speed, my MacBook lasts for about 5 to 6 hours.

Of course, the Mountain Lion OS coupled with the i5 processor makes most programs run smoothly. Multi-tasking is a breeze, so it's been a godsend in terms of my productivity. MBPs may be a bit more expensive, but I consider mine as a great investment.

MacBook Pro is one Great Laptop!

I have never owned a MacBook prior to this. I am in-fact a "PC user" and have been for the past 20+ years. However, I got my first taste of Mac a few months ago when I changed jobs and now understand the hype.

My PC at home was near the end of its journey and was "seeing the light at the end of the tunnel". I made the choice to purchase this 17" MacBook Pro as my desktop replacement. I could not be more happier.

The machine is outstanding. As far as design is concerned, it is about a bulky as most other 17" laptops with the exception that it is thinner - at least it appears to be.

The graphics are great and I have used it for some 3D gaming (mostly EVE Online) and it is outstanding. However, the GPU can get pretty hot. You'll notice the heat on the back/bottom of the laptop and metal bar above the function keys in front of the MacBook Pro logo.

While the machine runs a bit on the warm side when rendering 3D graphics, it is still well within normal tolerances for the equipment. I think part of this is that the metal skin radiates heat while the plastic case of most PC's don't. I am sure the GPU's would actually be running as close to the same temperatures.

Great, solid machine

This machines is solid, the 16GB of RAM makes it soar through anything you throw at it. It shows even in booting up and shutting down. The Flash hard drive makes opening large files smooth and fast. It’s awesome coming from a 7-year-old Core Duo MacBook. It may be a bit overkill for what I’m going to be using it for, but it’s absolutely amazing. It will be nice to get back into photo editing as my old machine didn’t handle it well at all.

If you’re on the fence about getting so much RAM or the bigger hard drive, after reading other reviews- keep in mind that they’re soldered on and not user replaceable. Made it a no-brainer for me. The store also contacted me with free expedited shipping with Applecare purchase, something I was going to get anyway, so I got it the next day for free!

Way more than expected

I work in tech support for a university in Texas. I have been handling Apple products of all sorts over the years. The Macbook Pro has always been a favorite when I get a new one come in (they almost never break).

So my PC desktop died and my old 2008 Macbook couldn't handle doing the video editing I do as a freelance videographer. The old Macbook took 10 hours to export a 5 minute clip and the same clip on the new Macbook Pro took 10 minutes. No contest.

I love this Mac way more than expected and its power is way more than expected. I went from a PC desktop with an Intel Core2Quad and 8GB of RAM to this MBP running an i7 and 16GB. I knew it'd be an upgrade, but I had no idea how much better it is.

I've been carrying it everywhere, it is really thin and light. For SXSW, I spent a day with it in my backpack along with all my photo/video gear and it didn't break my back. The battery life is damn good for what it is, a portable desktop. I can get around 4-6 hours doing video/photo/audio editing on the go. I think I could see 10 hours if I did light internet work with word processing.

The Retina display setting felt cramped to me, so I bumped it up one notch and now the 15 in. screen look like a 17. The clarity and color depth of this panel have no competition from what I've seen of the current market.

I've been regularly running this Pro with a 2nd display editing video, exporting a video, audio editing, watching Netflix and internet surfing all at the same time. It barely even registers as taxed by that.

The downsides are typical. Chrome can't full-screen Youtube videos if you install the Adobe Flash plugin, so don't install it and let Chrome use its plugin. For me, the 256GB SSD is a little small, but the USB 3.0 ports make loading an external drive a snap. No native NTFS support but there is Tuxera for that. No other glaring issues as I am accustomed to OSX and I moved my working OSX image from my old 08 Macbook.

The absolute BEST laptop I have ever owned!!!

This laptop is hands-down the BEST laptop I have ever owned!!! However, my friends and co-workers highly recommended the MacBook Pro because they emphasized the huge difference between Apple laptops and laptops from other brands.

Once I received my MacBook Pro, I couldn't be happier!!! I didn't have to wait eons for my laptop to start, and the set-up was so smooth and easy! I love how my MacBook is so light and easy to carry and store away, and incredibly user-friendly! My previous two laptops were HP, and they weren't bad. But they were standard laptops that took a while to boot up and function, and even after I had to replace the battery for my last HP laptop, it still would fizzle and conk out on me.

The battery life for my MacBook is just perfect!! I hardly have to charge it up that many times, and it's always good to go!! I really can't think of anything bad to say about it!! I have definitely gotten bitten by the Apple bug, and I seriously can't go back to any other computer!!

I'm a lifetime Windows/PC user who converted to the Macbook in 2008. This Macbook pro is a sturdier/sleeker design than the previous Macbooks. The software is as good as it gets. Startups/shutdowns are lightning fast. Internet/wifi connectivity works perfectly (as with any apple product). Safari is a weak browser, so I suggest using Firefox or Chrome - this will unleash the best web-surfing experience. This OS allows you to do Airplay - which has made music/movies much more enjoyable (I project them to my TV).

Yes, it's pricier than the PC laptops out there. But so worth it.

MacBook Pro with Retina Display: Perfection

This MacBook Pro (with Retina display) replaces my faithful white MacBook of 2007 vintage running Mac OS 10.5.8. The local Apple Store completed the data transfer.

The new OS (Mountain Lion) does not support my old version of Office for Mac 2004, nor my old Lexmark X75 all-in-one inkjet printer. This is not all bad, as it forced me to update Office software to 2011 and to an HP all-in-one that had been part of my 2007 purchase, but remained unused. However, the old white MacBook coped with the older software and printer well.

As to the new MacBook Pro (with Retina display), this reflects the progress made over the years from 2007, both in hardware and software. The result in my estimation is, as the review title indicates, the perfect laptop; and a work of art.
