Reviewed By omailsp (2012-05-05) Mac Desktop Pro versus Dell Precision T7500 I recently compared our newly acquired Apple Mac Pro Two-2.66GHZ Six-Core Intel Xeon Westmere (12 cores), 32GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 5770 to our Dell Precision T7500, 2.00GHz E5504 (2 processors), 24GB RAM, NVIDIA Quadro FX 5800. Though it is not a clear "Apples to Apples" comparison, but rather an "Apple (Mac) to Dell" comparison :-). Okay, I will leave the comedy to others. I am not, by any means saying the comparison was even, I made any adjustments I could in making the comparison.
I took the exact same Adobe Premiere Pro project and loaded the project on each machine. 3GB of RAM is required to allocate to other programs; so since the Dell had 24GB of RAM only 21GB could be used for Premiere Pro. Accordingly, I adjusted the RAM allocation of the Mac Premiere Pro project to 21GB to make the comparison as far as possible--again, for the tecnho geeks...I realize the processors in the Mac are 2.66GHz compared to the 2.00 GHz processors in the Dell and the video cards are different. However, this is real world and I have, what I have.
Okay, back to the comparison. I set up each project for each computer and fully rendered the project, prior to sending the project to be compiled into its given format (e.g., FLV, MOV, MP4, MP3, etc). Once each project was ready to encode, I clicked OK and started the timer. the Mac Pro beat the Dell in every comparison by 31% or greater; with that being the .MOV format.
I almost see this like a "Toy Story" moment. my Dell is "Woody," a good friend forever. Useful and dependable. Whereas my Mac Pro is "Buzz Lightyear," shiny and new. I think I am going to keep them both--after all, you cannot have too many friends! |

Reviewed by Rob Sheridan(2012/05/01) Mac Pro: Solid piece of equipment I upgraded from a pretty fast G5, so I wasn't expecting too much of a difference. But when it came to trying out the Mac Pro I ordered from MacMall, I was really impressed with the speed and performance of the machine! I am a professional photographer and work with large image files. I can open a 300 megabyte 24x36" TIFF Photoshop file in a second!
The Mac Pro also runs really quiet; the only noise coming from the machine is my external hard drive sitting on top of it. I like the smoothness of everything that’s in the computer. I figure that kind of quietness can only come from the ease by which the Mac Pro handles every task you throw at it.
As for the build quality, the Mac Pro is like a tank and is worth every penny. And with the ability to easily upgrade its components, I'll have this machine for a very long time. Consider it an excellent product and does all I need to do. It is fast, relatively quite and very efficient. Not much else to tell you, works as well as advertised and perhaps even better. Thank you MacMall for your extraordinary customer service AAA +++ |

Reviewed by Benny Wicks (2012/04/15) Apple Mac Pro Quad-Core Intel Xeon NehalemThis is one of many different Macs I own and so far the best yet! For anyone teetering on the Mac Pro and the iMac, you won't be disappointed! The expandability of the Mac Pro is to me the main reason to get it. The ability to run four internal drives or add the Apple RAID card and huge amount of memory allows a greater range of performance and expandability over the iMacs. Performance is excellent! I made the right decision.
The TurboBoost technology created by Apple is a sight to behold. It starts up the Mac Pro in just a couple of seconds. Very fast, very streamlined, and everything works well together.
The quad-core of my Mac Pro is very dependable. I could run multiple programs at no noticeable decrease in speed. Going from one program to another is a breeze. Searching for files in the 1TB drive is also fast, as well as transferring them to thumb drives and other external storage. I just wish though that this has been equipped with Thunderbolt.
Add a very capable graphics card to the quad core Mac Pro and you get a really efficient machine. The two just work well together to create a user experience that is unmatched in any desktop I have ever tried. |
