Reviewed by Bill LeDrew(2012-02-03) A Most Amazing Piece of Technology In November my trusty Core Duo iMac died [later repaired with new power supply]. It had served me well since early 2006. I had since purchased a unibody loaded MacBook to use for consulting work. While I do like the convenience of the MacBook for consulting, it never captured my admiration as much as did my trusty iMac.
Now retired, I decided to make a bold move and buy the best iMac I could afford and hand off my trusty repaired iMac to my spouse. I spent nearly 3 weeks evaluating configurations and pricing before making my selection. The one item I compromised on was RAM, which I'm going to upgrade to 16G myself. Even with a lowly 4G of RAM, this thing screams. The huge increase in screen size continues to be a huge advantage The only criticism is that the font size for the Finder bar across the top is too small. Not impossible, but not the best.
I'm also using the Lion default scrolling and now love it. My only difficulty is accidentally zooming Safari and not sure how to swipe it back to normal. The extra ports are such a treat that I plan to exploit. I do wish there were a couple on the front for casual use as I have to move the whole unit to plug and unplug. The only thing I'm thinking of changing is to string a CAT6 cable to my Airport Extreme for this machine vs using wi-fi as I do with my other 3 Macs.
This is clearly the best Mac I've ever owned. The wait for a custom configured model was worth the wait.

Reviewed by Janina Mont (2012-02-01) iMac 21.5, 2.5GHz Very nice all in one computer. It has simplified my desk considerably. It used to be that I have all sorts of cables that seem to get all tangled up with one another no matter how I try to keep them in place. With the iMac I got one cable to the power source, one Ethernet, and that’s it. My desk is now clutter-free.
The clean desktop has made it more convenient for me to work at my home office. Add to that the beautiful computer that is the iMac. It’s lovely to use the computer because of the Lion OS. I have only used Mac for a while but it’s growing on me fast. It’s so much more intuitive and easier to use. Plus, the interface is an eye candy. It is design meets performance, and it’s awesome to have both worlds.
One hump that I needed to overcome is making sure that my files can be opened by my non-Mac contacts. I use iWork. I got tired of Microsoft Office and swore not to use it again when possible. The iWork is great. I know that the iWork suite has an option to save files in Microsoft formats. But Numbers, when saved to Excel, loses some formatting. It’s a minor hump but, and I hope it would be fixed and make the experience seamless.
As for the performance, I haven’t experienced any lags or downtimes. The Mac is superfast and not prone to freezing up. Even if I try to open multiple programs, it stands up to speed. |

Reviewed by Cara Lowe(2012-01-24) Great computer, worth the price tag! First time to try MacMall and I was not disappointed. Got a lower price than Apple for the iMac I wanted, and they shipped it as scheduled. It arrived in good condition, in original packaging and all, and I also got this email after a month, asking me for a review. So here it goes:
The iMac has been great so far. It’s worth every cent that I spent on it. You see, I work hard for my money and it is good everywhere of course. The iMac is worth it. It’s a bit on the high price point but that’s the price for quality, I guess. You get a computer that is built to last and a very advanced operating system that is so easy and fun to use.
The performance of the iMac has been completely satisfactory thus far. I could open five programs side by side and there would be no freezes or lags. The system remains snappy and fast. I just love it because it eliminates all the hassle of an underpowered computer.
As for the exterior, all I can say is wow! The build quality is impressive. The all-in-one form factor feels solid and classy. It is a beauty. Also, the wireless keyboard and magic mouse completely removed the desk clutter I was once familiar with. |
