Set up was quick - caution refurbished items has no manual - but went to website and downloaded materials.

Like new saved a ton of cash.

Will use the store again. I like the zip delivery.

Refurb Linkstation Pro

2011-11-04
By Tim

Ordered this product couple of weeks ago from the store - product arrived in just a couple of days. As another reviewer stated the refurb model does not come wtih documentation or software. It does take more time to download the manual and software so if you are in a hurry dont go the refurb route. After couple of days of downloading latest firmware and manuals was able to get system up and going. Someone had already set my system up for RAID 1 but I decided to rebuild the RAID just in case. OVerall I am happy with the device as it does what it says.. The software from Buffalo is junk in my opinion, just use it to set up initally and then just map a drive to your system and you are ready to go.. I also didnt like the backup software provided as it backs up your data with some type of proprietary files.. I just went on line and downloaded a sharewhare back up program and it works fine. Overall happy with the purchase. If you are not a little tech savy would not order the refurb unit as you have some work to do.. If you are you can easily save about $100 bucks for your effots.

Good product - works with Time Machine

2011-10-26
By Jim

I had been wanting to set up Time Machine for some time now, so I could set it and forget it. I bought this NAS drive to accomplish that, and had a bit of a challenge getting it set up. The problem was I didn't have the latest firmware, which I figured out after browsing on Buffalo Tech's site for a bit. You really have to read the documentation to understand all the ins and outs of this drive, which was a bit of a challenge since no hard copy documentation was provided with this refurb unit. The doc is on the drive itself, I finally discovered.

Anyway, I used the web interface to set up the drive, download the firmware, etc., and finally got it all set up with Time Machine. Since then, it's worked like a charm. Time Machine automatically does hourly, daily, and weekly full backups.

One issue was the web interface went on for hours saying the firmware installation was in progress, when in fact it was long since completed. I finally just closed the web interface, restarted the drive, and all was well.

The only other minor nit is that the drive's fan is a bit loud. I have the drive connected to my Apple router, which is in a room my wife uses as her home office. She's complained a couple times that the drive is noticeably loud and a bit annoying.
