What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is the unofficial beginning of the holiday shopping season in the United States. It falls on the Friday immediately after Thanksgiving. The use of the term Black Friday originates from 1960s Philadelphia. It describes brick-and-mortar stores who, on this day, offer huge discounts to go from being “in the red” to being “in the black.” It is one of the busiest shopping days of the year, as deeply discounted items in different Black Friday deals attract droves of customers to the stores.
What is Cyber Monday?
Cyber Monday refers to the Monday after the Thanksgiving weekend. It was first used during the 2005 holiday shopping season. On this day, stores offer exclusive discounts and other promos for their online customers only. Fresh off the Thanksgiving weekend, people return to work on Cyber Monday and traditionally do their shopping online. It marks the end of Thanksgiving Sale and transitions the stores to the start of the Holidays and New Year’s.
