AirPort Time Capsule

Apple AirPort
> AirPort Time Capsule
AirPort Time Capsule is unique among all Apple base stations for its dual purpose: it serves as a backup device and a router. With just this one base station, you can enjoy the benefits of 802.11ac WiFi and automatic data backup for all computers on the base station’s wireless network.

The fifth-generation Time Capsule is a fully featured WiFi access point capable of supporting the 802.11ac standard, the most recently developed WiFi standard that offers thrice the speed of the previous 802.11n standard. This latest standard boosts data rates to 1 Gbps and doubles channel bandwidth, ensuring that devices on the Time Capsule’s wireless network enjoy high-speed, glitch-free Internet connections. Aside from its base station functions, the Apple Time Capsule also functions as a backup device for Macs. This device is designed to perfectly work with the Apple Time Machine utility on OS X Leopard and later OS X versions, creating hourly, weekly, and monthly copies of your entire Mac system as long as there’s space on the Time Capsule’s hard drive.

Like all Apple routers, AirPort Time Capsule is easy to set up. Upon the Time Capsule’s first connection to a cable or DSL modem, users can create a wireless network in a matter of minutes as well as designate the Time Capsule as the system’s backup device. The AirPort Time Capsule is a great addition to any home or small office network. Time Capsule base stations in 2 TB and 3 TB configurations are available right here at MacMall.

AirPort Time Capsule
Combining advanced WiFi technology and NAS features

Apple’s AirPort Time Capsule is more than just a dual-band WiFi base station that supports 802.11ac WiFi; it’s also a NAS device that can create backup copies of as much as 3 TB of files and system data. No other Apple router is designed to efficiently perform this level of dual-sided performance.

Dual-band access point
As an access point, the fifth-generation Apple Time Capsule is capable of dual-band operation. When connected to the Time Capsule’s wireless network, 802.11ac-capable devices operate on one band while devices using lower-speed standards are located on another. This separation of bands ensures that all users, particularly those on high-speed standards, optimize their devices’ maximum speed.

Secure connectivity
To ensure network security, Time Capsule uses a built-in firewall to protect data on your computer. This firewall is automatically activated upon the Time Capsule’s first setup. You can also further improve network security by setting up a guest WiFi network that provides Internet-only access, so LAN-connected devices and files remain off-limits.

Continuous, automatic backup
With Apple Time Machine, Time Capsule can wirelessly create backup copies of everything on your Mac, including settings and system data. The backups are automatically updated with each file change, too, so you don’t have to worry about setting backup schedules. To make sure that the process is quick and efficient, only changed files are updated in backup copies.

High-capacity hard drives
AirPort Time Capsule base stations are equipped with high-capacity hard drives to ensure sufficient space for hourly, weekly, and monthly backups. These base stations are available with 2 TB and 3 TB Seagate Barracuda hard drives.
